Applications must include:

  • The completed application form, available in print form and on-line from the website at http://www.fivecolleges.edu/sites/asp  Applications may be submitted in English, French or Portuguese, but applicants must be able to participate in the program in English.
  • A curriculum vitae in four pages or less, listing significant diplomas, university-level teaching appointments, publications, and other scholarly productions and presentations. 
  • A synopsis of the scholarly writing project in approximately 1,000 words. All projects should be relevant to the study of Africa in the humanities or social sciences.  For January 2007 term, applications should address the theme of Globalization & development. For August 2007, a particular topic is not imposed. Please discuss the research that led to your project, your plans for completing the project during the residency, and its likely outcome (article, book, dissertation).
  • A statement of how your project would be of interest to a seminar of African Studies scholars in the humanities and social sciences, and how you would benefit from taking part in that seminar. 
  • A statement about the expected benefits to your home university upon your return.

Applications may be sent by mail, by fax or by email.  Applications for 2007 terms must be received by 1 May, 2006.  Please put your name in the subject line for email.  A confirmation of receipt will be sent once all your documents have been submitted. 

When awarded a fellowship, selected residents must provide a signed statement from the chief academic officer at their university, indicating academic position, granting academic leave during the residency, and certifying the right to return to this position afterwards.
