Amherst named top North American College town

Three top institutions, affordable restaurants and the Five College consortium are among the reasons that make Amherst, Massachusetts, North America’s number 1 college town.

That’s according to college admissions consultant Katherine L. Cohen in her story "Top 5 College Towns in North America" featured on msn.com’s Encarta Web site. Cohen, the founder and CEO of two college counseling firms, IvyWise LLC and ApplyWise.com, ranks Amherst ahead of Berkeley, Calif., Montreal, Washington, D.C. and Boston.

"These are towns where college students love to live and learn," writes Cohen, noting their "great public transportation, easy access to affordable resources and a community that supports a vibrant social and cultural environment."
