Five College Choral Groups to Perform Verdi’s Requiem with the Springfield Symphony April 2 Eleven choral groups from the Five Colleges will travel to Springfield on Sunday, April 2 for a special afternoon performance with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra at the MassMutual Center at 3:00 p.m. Under the direction of Maestro Kevin Rhodes, the orchestra will present a program featuring Giuseppe Verdi's “Requiem,” to be sung by more than 800 voices, including 500 from the Five College choruses as well as choristers from Cornell University and from Worcester. The soloists for this performance are Priscilla Baskerville (soprano), Margaret Yauger (mezzo-soprano), Eric Ashcroft (tenor) and Malcolm Smith (bass). Also on the program for the concert is the overture from Verdi's opera "La Forza del destino" and "Pines of Rome" by Respighi. All the choral groups will gather in John M. Green Hall at Smith College on Tuesday, March 28 for a full rehearsal with the conductor. According to Rhodes, because the performers are so numerous, for this rehearsal he will conduct from the stage while the performers sit in the audience, which is just the reverse of a normal concert. The concert is sponsored by the MassMutual Financial Group with media sponsors cbs3, Clear Channel Communications and Turley Publications. Tickets are $15, $25, $35 and $45. Groups of 10 or more save $5 off each ticket.
