1. REL 290: Religion and Politics in America

"Religion and Politics in America" examines the historical evolution of the role of religion in American politics, beginning with the colonial period and culminating with the current elections. We will trace the role of religion in the public life of the emerging United States as well as the impact of certain political choices on the religious life of the nation. The second half of the course will be devoted to analyzing the configuration of religion and politics in the United States today.

2. Five College Pashto Language Courses for 2008-2009

Pashto (spoken in many regions of Afghanistan and northern and western parts of Pakistan) courses will be offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program during the 2008-2009 academic year. A visiting Fulbright scholar will be in residence for the year making it possible to offer Pashto in experimental form. Three types of courses will be offered to meet various needs:

FORLANGC 197tba: Pashto Language and Culture (fall semester);

FORLANGC 197tba: Conversational Pashto (spring semester);

FORLANGC 197tbaMentored Pashto (both semesters).
