Five Colleges Takes Part in National Global Warming Teach-in
Member campuses of Five Colleges, Inc. are participating in Focus the Nation, a national teach-in on global warming solutions, on January 31, 2008. Locally, the teach-in will include panel discussions, music performances, lectures and break-out sessions aimed at educating students and area residents about the world's greatest environmental threat. Highlights of the day include a presentation by Michael Klare, the Five College Professor of Peace and World Security, and discussions of area efforts to reduce global warming threats.
Nationally, with millions of students at more than 1,000 colleges and universities expected to participate, Focus the Nation organizers predict it will be the largest teach-in in US history. Events will kick-off on the evening on January 30, 2008, with the national screening of the interactive webcast The 2% Solution on Earth Day Network TV.
The broadcast will feature Stanford climate scientist Stephen Schneider, sustainable business consultant Hunter Lovins and others discussing potential solutions and audience members voting on questions related to climate change. The title refers to the idea that to properly address global warming, developed countries must cut pollution 2 percent each year for the next 40 years.
The following schedules offer an overview of events on each campus. All events are free and open to the public.
