Vagina Monologues presented at Five Colleges The Vagina Monologues are coming to the Five Colleges this month, with member campuses staging performances of Eve Ensler's production. The award-winning production features a series of women presenting monologues that relate to the vagina through subjects ranging from birth to menstruation to sexual assault. A theme of the Vagina Monologues is the vagina as a means of female empowerment. One goal of the Monologues productions is to provide women at the colleges an opportunity to overcome the silence that surrounds sexual violence, according to Gretchen Krull, a sexual assault counselor and assistant director of health education at Amherst College. "We hope to empower women to use their voice to make a change in this arena," she said. "That which is unspoken cannot be changed." Another goal is for the Vagina Monologues, according to Krull, is to raise awareness and foster an atmosphere of dialogue that could create a better understanding of and among women. Earlier in the month, Vagina Monologues creator Eve Ensler spoke at Smith College, kicking off her college speaking tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of V Day, the global movement to end violence against women. The movement, founded by Ensler, has raised more than $50 million for local anti-violence groups. Five College performances of The Vagina Monologues include: Smith College
