Overview Training

This is a class that lasts 1.5 hours and is required of all America Reads tutors . As a work-study student, you will be paid for your training time. Training will cover classroom etiquette, your responsibilities as an America Reads/America Counts Tutor, and introduces some tutoring strategies. You may look for a job before completing the overview training, but must complete it before you begin tutoring.

Monday, February 2nd:
Amherst College: 6:00-7:30, 209 Converse Hall

Thursday, February 5th:
UMass: 4-5:30, Herter 108
Smith: 7:00-8:30, Campus Center 003

Thursday, February 12th:
Hampshire: 4:00-5:30, 105 Franklin Pierce Hall
Mt. Holyoke: 6:30-8:00, CDC Conference Room

Thursday, February 19, 2009
UMass: (Make-up- use this date only if you cannot make the others) 4:00-5:30, Herter 108

Please email Sarah Peller at speller@educ.umass.edu to register for the training session. If you have any special needs regarding accessibility, please let us know ahead of time so that we can be sure to accomodate you.

All Overview Trainings take place in the evening and last approximately 1.5 hours. You must arrive on time and stay through the entire session in order to be paid for your training.

*America Reads tutors may attend Overview Training at any campus * it does not need to be at one's own university/college campus.

You can sign up via email to attend a training session at any of the five colleges by writing speller@educ.umass.edu. Indicate your name, address, phone number, college, and the date of the Overview Session you plan to attend. We encourage you to register in advance, but you can also show up at any Overview Session that your schedule permits without registering.
