Five College America Reads Program : Overview Training

Overview Training

This is a class that lasts two hours and is required of all America Reads tutors . As a work-study student, you will be paid for your training time. Training will cover classroom etiquette, your responsibilities as an America Reads/America Counts Tutor, and introduces some tutoring strategies. You may look for a job before completing the overview training, but we encourage you to sign up for training as soon as you're able to attend.

Thursday February 14th, Hampshire, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Faculty Staff Lounge, Franklin Patterson Hall.
Tuesday February 19th, Amherst, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Converse Hall 209
Wednesday February 20th, Umass, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, School of Management Room 124
Tuesday Febuary 26th, Mt. Holyoke, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Conference Room, Career Development Center (CDC)
Thursday February 28th, Smith, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, room, Campus Center 204

Wednesday March 26, Smith College, 6-8:00 pm, Wright Hall #231

Please email Sarah Peller at speller@educ.umass.edu to register for the training session. If you have any special needs regarding accessibility, please let us know ahead of time so that we can be sure to accomodate you. Note, you must complete the Overview Training before you begin tutoring.

All Overview Trainings take place in the evening and last approximately two hours. You must arrive on time and stay through the entire session in order to be paid for your training.

*America Reads tutors may attend Overview Training at any campus * it does not need to be at one's own university/college campus.

You can sign up via email to attend a training session at any of the five colleges by writing speller@educ.umass.edu. Indicate your name, address, phone number, college, and the date of the Overview Session you plan to attend. We encourage you to register in advance, but you can also show up at any Overview Session that your schedule permits without registering.
