Certificate Program in Asian/Pacific/American Studies Beginning and Completing The Five College Certificate Program in Asian/Pacific/American Studies is overseen by a committee of faculty from all five institutions. The committee works to coordinate and expand course offerings at the five institutions, advises students seeking to fulfill program requirements in Asian/Pacific/American Studies, and coordinates special events among the five institutions in collaboration with students from the five colleges. The A/P/A committee recommends students fulfilling certificate requirements choose courses from among those listed here, although other courses may be substituted with the approval of your campus advisor. Courses are grouped by distribution categories (Introductory, Expressions, U.S. Interconnections, Global Intersections) and according to whether they are core or component courses within the program. (Students should take at least one course from each category; and at least 3 courses beyond the introductory course should be core courses.) Students who complete program requirements and whose campuses have approved the Program for their students will be awarded a certificate and will receive acknowledgement of their completion of the program requirements on their official transcripts. As of fall 2001, the Five College Asian/Pacific/American Studies Certificate Program has been approved for students at Amherst, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College. The Program is currently pending approval at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. | |
