Welcome! The Five College African Scholars Program is dedicated to supporting the research of individual scholars in Africa, strengthening partnerships among scholars in Africa and the United States, and enriching the study of Africa. It is an initiative of Five College African Studies. Located in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, the Program draws on the resources of a consortium of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The five colleges are renowned for a 40-year history of cooperation and innovation in higher education, and have one of the largest concentrations of Africanist faculty in the United States. The Five College African Scholars program does not currently offer fellowships but encourages African scholars applying for Fulbright or other fellowship programs to contact our program about selecting one of the five colleges as their host institution.
