Members of the African Studies Council edit this multi-disciplinary scholarly journal which publishes original research and analyses of Africa. The African Studies Review is the primary publication of the African Studies Association.

Five College Cooperation
Located within 10 kilometers of each other, Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts are part of a vibrant cultural area. The Five College Calendar publicizes campus lectures, readings and performances.

African Studies Council
Over 30 faculty oversee an interdisciplinary curriculum, arrange a lively Faculty Seminar, and sponsor cultural events. Council members have hosted numerous visitors, such as Achebe, Aidoo, Annan, Nawal El Saadawi, Sembene, Soyinka, and Tutu.

African Studies Association
The ASA Annual Meeting includes panels, discussion groups, exhibits, and films. The theme for the 2005 Annual Meeting (in Washington, DC, from November 17-20, 2005) is "Health, Knowledge, and the Body/Politic in Africa and the African Diaspora".
