and the 'World Black Revolution'"
A Lecture by Bill Mullen
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 5PM
ADELE SIMMONS HALL
HAMPSHIRE COLLEGE "Professor Mullen's lecture will be drawn from his forthcoming book, AFRO-ORIENTALISM. Best known as a critic of African-American and radical literature, Mullen breaks new ground in this examination of the ways in which African-Americans have used images of "the orient" and actual interactions with Asian peoples and cultures to produce African-American cultural formulations. Mullen's talk looks at one little known figure, Robert F. Williams, a Black Radical from the 1960s, and his time in exile in the People's Republic. Mullen argues that ties between Maoism and Black Marxism are some of the hidden connections within "Afro-Orientalism." |
