Courses: Am Studies 80 Amherst College Prof. Nielsen Spring 2002 This course offers an introduction to Latin/o American film and theatre texts that illuminate cultural and political movements in the Americas during the 20th century. We study the ways in which film, theatre and music address and expresses crises of social conflict. Drawing on post-colonial and liberation theories of culture, art, and the state, we construct an intellectual history of socially-motivated Latin/o American film and theatre performances.
