social conditions in which the Cuban Revolution emerged and how have these
conditions been transformed since 1959? We will explore the tremendous variety within Cuban society and the historical situations that engendered it. The course highlights the ways in which Cubans have engaged with colonialism, slavery, global economic integration, nationalism, gender, and race.
