Course DescriptionThe Latin American economies have undergone a dramatic process of economic collapse and restructuring since 1980. We examine the background to the collapse and the economic reforms implemented in response. We assess the economic performance of the region under this ?neoliberal? model, and ask why it is being increasingly rejected throughout the region. We consider the current status and future prospects of the region's economies. Prerequisites: 250 or 253, and one course in international economics or development.
