We will closely examine the multiple contexts for literacy education including school, home, and community. Special topics include: A sociocultural theory of literacy and literacy education; role of language in literacy education; role of culture in literacy and learning; literacy instruction in multilingual/multicultural classroom contexts; language, culture and the politics of schooling; and critical literacy in school and community. This course has a field component. Enrollment limited to 35. |
