Course DescriptionTopics course. An in-depth examination of contemporary political and social issues in Mexico. The country, once described as the "perfect dictatorship," is in the process of undergoing a series of deep political and economic changes. This seminar provides an examination of the historical foundations of modern Mexican politics, beginning with the Revolution. In addition, it examines a series of current challenges, including the transition from one-party rule, the neo liberal economic experiment and NAFTA, border issues, the impact of drug trafficking, and rebellion in Chiapas.
