The first part provides an historical overview of the major economic and social trends that shaped the region's political institutions and the distribution of power among societal groups. The second part examines democratization, major theories and policies of economic development, political ideology, the military, social movements, and the rule of law. Finally, the course looks at the impact of institutions such as political parties, electoral rules, the executive, and legislatures.' |
