Artists-In-Residence/ Professors of Dance
at Mount Holyoke College and co-directors of the FREEDMAN/COLEMAN Dance Company
Their choreographic, performing and teaching endeavors have taken them to over thirty states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and to Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, Poland, France, Taiwan, Austria and the People's Republic of China.
Prior to forming the FREEDMAN/COLEMAN Dance Company, Jim Coleman was a featured soloist with the Bill Evans Dance Company (WA), and a founding member of Tandy Beal and Company (CA); Terese Freedman was a member of the Nancy Spanier Dance Theater, and the Bill Evans Touring Company.
FREEDMAN/COLEMAN Dance Company is on the rosters of both the Massachusetts and New England Touring Programs, and has also been a participant in the National Performance Network (NPN) touring program.
Together the artists have been awarded a number of choreographic fellowships, including two from the NEA and three from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). They have also received grants to fund a number of special projects, including a New Works grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts to support a collaborative choreography and video project.
They have received numerous choreographic commissions from dance companies throughout the United States including Concert Dance Company of Boston, Chicago Moving Company, Danceworks Northwest (WA), Co-Motion Dance Company (WA), Cincinnati Contemporary Theatre, Island Moving Company (RI), Dances Unlimited Repertory (TX), D-9/Seattle, as well as many university and college dance companies.
