MASS MoCA 2012 Internships MASS MoCA seeks full-time interns for various departments. Spend any season in the culturally rich, naturally beautiful Berkshires, while gaining invaluable professional experience in the arts. Paid interns are given 100/wk stipend and free housing within a block of the complex. Each applicant may apply to a maximum of 2 departments. Production Interns (2): Interns work with the Production Coordinator, Master Carpenter, Master Electrician, House Sound Engineer, and house crew on all aspects of technical theatre and film. This includes hands-on in all of the following areas – carpentry, lighting, sound, audio/visual, and running crew. Marketing/Public Relations (1) : Interns work on all aspects of marketing MASS MoCA's events and exhibitions including postering and flyering for upcoming performing arts events in surrounding areas, writing blogs, facebook posts, and tweets, researching new forums for publicity, assisting with public outreach by manning booths and tabling at festivals and local colleges, writing press releases, assisting with bulk mailings, giving tours of the galleries, preparing press packets. Applicant must have a valid US driver’s license. Archive Intern: (1): Intern will work in cooperation with several departments Development (1): Reporting to the Manager of Foundation and Corporate Grants, the Development Intern will work directly with development staff on all aspects of MASS MoCA’s fundraising activities, including research, grant writing, direct mail, special events and database management. Interns will be required to work up to 50 hours per week, although some weeks could be longer. Strong writing ability and previous experience interacting with the public are preferred. Visual Arts (1): Interns will also devote 3 days per week to the Education department, giving regular tours of exhibitions, interacting with museum visitors, and developing focused "spotlight" talks on topics of special interest. This is a crucial part of the internship experience. Interns assist in the day-to-day operations of a busy curatorial department and help with the preparations for upcoming programs as well as the maintenance of current exhibitions. Responsibilities may include administrative duties, research, writing, and any number of unexpected errands or jobs required to help maintain an ambitious exhibition program of contemporary art. The successful candidate should be self sufficient, have an eye for detail, strong writing and research skills, and a positive attitude about performing many kinds of tasks on a demanding schedule. Must have drivers’ license and be willing to do a fair amount of driving.
