JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Dance At Texas Woman’s University is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Dance starting in Fall 2012. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in dance or a closely related field with a strong emphasis in dance. She or he must have teaching experience, scholarship, and a service record commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor in a nationally accredited dance program. Expertise in qualitative modes of inquiry and evidence of ability to direct doctoral-level research are required, as well as an interest in doctoral education offered in a low-residential format utilizing both electronic course delivery and face-to-face teaching. The department seeks an individual with innovative ideas about the integration of theory and practice in art making, research, and pedagogy, as well as a commitment to transdisciplinary inquiry and the examination of methodological issues in a variety of research contexts. Candidates should have a personal research agenda as well as the interest and ability to facilitate inquiry that will lead others to discovering and developing their own research interests.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the Ph.D. in Dance program, including directing doctoral dissertation research, and teaching selected M.A. and M.F.A. courses. Contribution to developing new online courses for the University core curriculum and supervising graduate teaching assistants teaching core courses may also be included.
Advising doctoral students, serving on graduate committees, supporting the choreography/ performance mission, participating in shared governance through committee service, and making substantive contributions to the Department of Dance recruitment/retention plan and project initiatives are required. Scholarly productivity in the form of research publications and presentations in national and/or international forums is required.
