Textbooks

The University Store is located in the Campus Center. (The link goes to the company that runs the bookstore rather than to the store itself, although this should take you to the UMass section.)

You can also order textbooks from several of the book shops in town:

Course Management Systems

The University, uses a system called SPARK. A help page for faculty is available here. For further help, contact
the Instructional Media Lab at 413-545-2823 or

Course Packets

At UMass, there are also several options. The primary on-campus place is the University Print Services, though it may also be the priciest. (They can be reached by phone at 413-577-9500.)

There is also a student print services business in the campus center.

A local shop such as Collective Copies is also an option.

Deadlines for Course Proposals

At the University, the Scheduling Office (part of the Office of the Registrar) works with the scheduling representatives from each department to put together the list of courses that will be offered the following year. They have a calendar up that outlines their process here:Important Dates.

The important thing to know is that UMass works a full year ahead. Course proposals are due in to the scheduling office from the departments at the end of October for courses for the following fall and in March for the following spring. The proofs of the course lists and descriptions are sent back to the departments in December for the following fall and at the end of April for the following spring. Because the proposals are sent back to the departments for proofing, there is a little bit of leeway in terms of time, but be aware that if you’re teaching at UMass the next year, you need to arrange what course you’ll be teaching a bit earlier than at the colleges.

Registrar Info

The administrative system used by UMass is called SPIRE. The help page for instructors is available here.

Parking

Vehicle Reservation

As far as could be determined, there are no general vehicles available for faculty to use. Individual programs may have vehicles, but, for example, the School of Humanities and Fine Arts does not.

Facilities Reservation

The most expedient way to reserve a room is to talk to the scheduling rep. in your department, who will work directly with the Academic Scheduling Office (part of the Registrar's office). You can also call the Scheduling Office directly at (413) 545-2605. The Scheduling Office is in charge of scheduling all classrooms at all times.

Rooms in the Campus Center can also be reserved, though this may involve a fee. More information is available here.

Athletic Facilities

The University has a faculty club, The University Club with meals available.
