DEDCC 08/19/05 meeting at Five Colleges - notes

Present: S. Berger, M. Billings, J. Ewing, L. Button, J. Jourdain

1. The report on the DOM retreat held July 12 has not yet been finalized, primarily due to the departure/imminent departure of the two of the committee members. Efforts to finalize the report by others in the group are proceeding and the report should be delivered to the Librarians Council soon. One key issue to be resolved is which body should sponsor future DOM collaboration efforts.

2. M. Billings will re-assume responsibility for maintenance of the DEDCC web space at http://fivecolleges.edu/sites/libraries_dedcc/index.php .

3. We finalized most plans for the Sept 23 brown bag lunch to recap this year’s NAAUG and SMUG conferences.

4. We discussed possible options for sponsoring a 3-hour presentation on GoogleScholar during January 2006. J. Ewing will contact RIO to see if they are interested in assisting and then contact the Librarians Council to determine interest level before we proceed farther. A favored idea is to host something to which librarians outside the Five Colleges (possibly Williams, Springfield area, and Worcester area) might be invited.

5. News updates: MHC is thinking of producing RSS headlines about library news.
SC has renewed their contract for Docutek “ask a librarian” chat service
UM has licensed access to the TurnItIn plagiarism detection service
SC is considering a switch from EndNote to RefWorks as its citation manager
