DEDCC 07/29/05 meeting at Five Colleges - notes
Present: S. Berger, C. Loring, J. Ewing, M. Billings, L. Button, J. Jourdain
1. We will wait to hear who will represent Hampshire on the committee, since Stephanie Brown’s move to UConn.
2. There is no news from the Librarians Council regarding our suggestion for building more links to library information on the web as a replacement for the printed library guide. (C. Loring will shepherd this.)
3. We quickly reviewed our campus policies for guest access to the wireless networking in the libraries and are encouraged by plans to automate cross-registration among the Five Colleges.
4. M. Billings will maintain the DEDCC website, vice S. Brown.
5. We agreed to keep the FCLIB-l listserv moderated (by J. Ewing and J. Jourdain) for the time being.
6. We very tentatively discussed the possibility of presenting a January 2006 program on GoogleScholar. We’d invite outside speakers and open the program to all area librarians, not just those in the Five Colleges.
7. The July 12 DOM retreat was a big success, although attendance was higher than anticipated and it was impossible to reach more concrete conclusions by the end of the day. The majority of feedback on the day is that there is overwhelming support for doing something about DOM, but there are many questions about what level of collaboration (campus and/or consortial) makes the most sense. A final report on the retreat to Lorna Peterson is in its final draft stages. The report will outline some next steps, including defining collaboration and the formation of a working group (several individuals have already volunteered) to move efforts forward.
8. We set a tentative date of September 23 for a brownbag to recap NAAUG and SMUG for those who did not attend.
Next meeting: Friday, August 19, 9AM at Five Colleges
