DEDCC 10/28/05 meeting at Five Colleges - notes

Present: M. Billings, J. Ewing, L. Button, C. Loring, J. Jourdain

The entire meeting was spent discussing arrangements for the GoogleScholar program planned for January 2006. The FCLC has approved the concept of the program and will fund it.

The invitees for the program will include: Five Colleges (including Simmons students), Williams, and PVAAL, with the possible addition of others, such as members of the local ACRL chapter and academic libraries in Connecticut, for example.

We chose some tentative dates. We agreed to have the program run 1-4 PM to allow for travel in the event of a storm, planning the following day for a snow date if the program has to be postponed due to weather. Tentative dates are January 4-6, 11-13, and 26-27.

J. Ewing and M. Billings will correspond with the speakers who have accepted our invitation to finalize a date for the program and coordinate with them on the topic and program format.

Pending space availability, the program will be held at Mount Holyoke, with Smith as backup.

C. Loring coordinated with Marie Hess of Five Colleges regarding travel reimbursements and honoraria for the speakers; he briefed J. Ewing and M. Billings on that so they could coordinate the financial details with the speakers.

The plan is to have the most critical details (date and place) finalized in the next few days. Once done, J. Ewing will prepare a brief “hold the date” announcement for distribution the week of November 7.
