DEDCC meeting 02/17/06 notes – Five Colleges
Present: M. Billings, J. Ewing, S. Berger, C. Loring, J. Jourdain
1. C. Loring updated the committee on FCLC-related topics. The committee is hopeful that FCLC's recurring discussion of DOM-related issues will be fruitful and it looks forward to having a representative from HC in the near future.
2. S. Berger will update DEDCC’s webpage for the GoogleScholar presentation in January. M. Billings is coordinating with the speakers to post their presentations with the page.
3. As a follow-up to the great response to the GoogleScholar program, the committee is eager to contact Google to acknowledge their efforts with GoogleScholar and suggest improvements to the service. We believe that a letter from the FCLC would be a worthwhile gesture toward encouraging Google to continue to partner with libraries. We might ask ACRL-NE to endorse the letter during their annual meeting in April at UMass. J. Ewing will draft the letter based on ideas discussed by the committee during our meeting.
4. The balance of the meeting was a discussion of possible topics for a brown bag lunch later in the spring ’06 semester. J. Jourdain suggested that, based on the Feb 14-15 Verde training participants enthusiasm for Verde, it might be useful to have a couple of those people give a very broad overview of what Verde is and what it will do for the libraries. All agreed that was a worthy topic; J. Jourdain will contact the chair of AcqSer regarding the possibility. And additional future topic may be folksomonies.
5. J. Ewing encouraged the committee to read the 2006 Horizon Report, from EDUCAUSE & the New Media Consortium: http://www.educause.edu/ir/library/pdf/CSD4387.pdf
Next meeting: Friday, Mar 24, 9AM at Five Colleges.
