DEDCC meeting 12/15/06 at Five Colleges

Present: J. Ewing, S. Berger, L. Button, J. Jourdain

1. J. Ewing wondered if we should submit an annual report, even
though it would be some months late. The group agreed to wait, pending the FCLC's review of committees 12/21/06.

2. J. Ewing proposed DEDCC sponsor a brown bag lunch or other
presentation on some relevant topic during January. J. Jourdain noted that the AIC was going to offer a series of ALEPH-related sessions starting in January and wondered if the abundance of options would reduce the success of all. Given that the AIC has many other projects to complete in January, J. Ewing and S. Berger offered to help with the logistics of the ALEPH sessions. Their generous offer was conveyed to Gai Carpenter.

3. S. Berger previewed a web survey created by Elisa Lanzi for the
ad hoc DRAM group, to assess progress and interest in digital asset and image management in various departments throughout the Five Colleges.

4. S. Berger wondered if it would make sense to have a demo of
DigiTool or other DAM/DOM in conjunction with the upcoming March NITLE event. Everyone supported this idea. The keynote event for "Managing Digital Collections: A Symposium on Technical and Organizational Interoperability" will be open to interested Five College staff. For more info see:

5. J. Ewing noted that there will be a meeting in January to
discuss the future of MetaLib in Five Colleges. That lead to a general discussion of status of Verde and MARCIt! and how oversight of the interaction of those tools with ALEPH might be conducted.

6. Looking ahead, we briefly discussed the idea of having some sort
of 5Coll Aleph event on "best practices" or "tips" perhaps in late spring/early summer - probably after ELUNA.

7. Pending the outcome of the FCLC's 12/21 meeting, no future DEDCC
meeting was scheduled.
