Five College Libraries, DEDCC Meeting Notes

November 16, 2007, 10:30 – 11:30 am @ Five Colleges, Inc.
Present: Janet Ewing, Mary Stettner, Anne C. Moore, Rebecca Henning, Sika Berger

1. Next Generation Catalogs: Directors seemed pleased with Next Generation Program. Total was approximately 0 over original budget for the program. We must remember to pass along comments to speakers.
To-Dos:
- Each host will pull out those comments intended for her speaker, after 12/1/07.
- Janet will send one reminder to attendees for feedback, Mon. after Thanksgiving.
- Janet will process thank you notes and any remaining expense documentation needed for Five Colleges. Janet will also draft a brief summary of the event for Librarians’ Council. She’ll then ask DEDCC members for help folding in a) Next steps from DEDCC perspective b) Comments from attendees.
- Sika will add MLA (Mass. Library Association) info for the spring Next Gen. Program to DEDCC’s web page.

2. Syndetics: RIO provided feedback via email, with the group opinion to try
to get a refund from Syndetics as a first course of action. They expressed a slight preference for Spanish language content if we’re going to substitute something for the poorly functioning “awards” feature. We might look at awards again when it’s fixed in either case.
To-Dos: - Anne will ask Syndetics to refund the cost of the Awards feature.

3. Schedule for upcoming DEDCC Meeting Dates:
- Friday, Dec. 7, 2007; 10:30-12 (To-Do: Janet will check on Five Colleges)
- Friday, Jan. 18, 2008; 10:30-12

4. January Program Planning:
This will be a simple brown bag. We should start checking on who (for 4-5 campuses) might have recent conference reports. We’ll schedule after ALA midwinter: likely to be Wed., Jan. 23, or Fri., Jan 25, 2008.
To-Dos: - Rebecca will check on availability of Alumnae House.
- All will ask around to see if anyone might want to speak.

5. Five College IT Access:
Following on RIO’s Reference gathering this fall, Smith reference staff are interested in seeing the chart DEDCC prepared for Librarians’ Council years ago updated to indicate current policies for network, course management, and wireless access on each campus. We should decide how this could be used, but agreed more information shared is helpful, particularly since the chart wasn’t widely distributed in 2003 (or when updated in 2005). We may want to post it on the DEDCC website or Five Colleges Libraries page.
To-Dos:
- Sika will update the Five College charts (2); add the docs. to Ella and also email
- Each: update your campus information and add guest access, media policies, laptops
- Sika will create a test Five College Libraries websites custom search (Google)

6. Concrete Steps on Next Generation Interfaces:
Some options include having DEDCC compile alternatives; offer more events to look at additional software or directions; create group(s) to investigate
To-Do: - Mary will put comments from the Next Gen. program feedback in Wiki on Ella and DEDCC members may add additional ideas.
