Meeting Notes

03/29/02 9AM Meeting at Five Colleges

Present: S. Berger, S. Brown, R. Fonfa, C. Loring, M. Hanley, J. Schafer, J. Jourdain

1. Meeting opened by C. Loring with review of committee’s charge. Agreed that it is fine and will be clarified further over time. Important thing is that DEDCC will explore new technologies in libraries, while most of the other Five College committees oversee daily current business of the libraries.

2. Housekeeping: S. Brown agreed to be first chair of the group. J. Jourdain will be recorder. We’ll rotate these duties annually.

3. Communications: Agreed on need for close, careful coordination with all other 5C committees. We’ll try to do as much as possible via email, but agreed to meet 2x/month for the first few months while we get going. We’ll try to use a listserv for the group. (Eventually, we may employ another listserv that includes the chairs of the other 5C Committees.) We also hope to post committee documents on a website (possibly at www.fivecolleges.edu).

4. Existing areas work: Reviewed status of the “Window Shopping Group.” Their report has been accepted by FCLC, but further action has been tabled pending review of UMass’ legal obligations related to RFIs, RFBs, and RFPs. We agreed to table all other projects, ideas until there is some resolution of a journal locator, following the January 24 meeting.

5. Journal locator: We agreed to have something in place for that start of Fall ’02 semester. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll research SerialsSolutions and TDNet a bit more and be ready to discuss the alternatives in more detail at our next meeting.

6. To do: M. Hanley will see about setting up listserv(s). She’ll also see about putting DEDCC documents on www.fivecolleges.edu, as well as other FC committee information.
J. Schafer will find out about TDNet options and pricing.
J. Jourdain will find out about SerialsSolutions (consortial option, customer creativity, status of title search feature)
S. Brown will schedule additional meetings for us during May & June

7. Pending future agenda items: Role of Donna Baron, Five Colleges, in relation to the group
