Meeting Notes

9/23/02 meeting at Five Colleges

Present: C. Loring, M. Hanley, J. Schafer, S. Berger, S.W. Brown, J.
Jourdain

1. We accepted the minutes of our meeting. We agreed that in future,
we will do this bit of housekeeping via email; once suggested (within 2 business days) changes to the draft notes are adopted, we'll consider the notes finalized (for redistribution within DEDCC and to the FCLC), considering the notes accepted at that point.

2. We scheduled an additional meeting for October: Friday, October 11,
2PM at Mount Holyoke College Library.

3. Jay confirmed that David Fritsch from TDNet will visit on Wednesday,
October 2, 3PM at Mount Holyoke College Library. DEDCC, the TDNet Implementation Group, RIO, and Ser/Acq will be invited to the meeting.
Other interested people are welcome to attend also. The purpose of David's visit is to update us on TDNet's view of the implementation so far and TDNet's plans for further system development, in addition to updating us on outstanding issues with the implementation.

4. Jan gave a TDNet update. She's waiting for feedback on the draft
implementation report submitted to both DEDCC and the Implementation Group.
She'll finalize that report after the October 2 meeting with David Fritsch and submit it to the FCLC. We agreed that the Five College Serials/Acquisitions Group is the logical group to assume responsibility for ongoing oversight of TDNet.

5. Marilyn gave an update on the Five College website, showing us
printouts of sample pages.

6. We agreed that the intent of our plan to provide liaison with the
other Five College Library committees is not to add another layer to the system, but to offer additional channels for communication. We do not plan to regularly attend meetings of the other groups, but to attend when there is a topic of special interest to either party. Please see our August 20 meeting notes for further details.

7. Sika gave an update on her investigation of cross website search
engines. Although Google says they have no immediate plans to offer such functionality, the emergence of Alkaline may encourage Google to more ahead in this arena. Sika will continue to investigate and provide more information to us.

8. Chris gave an update on the recent FCLC retreat.
