Meeting Notes

11/25/02 meeting at Five Colleges

Present: J. Schafer, S. Willen Brown, S. Berger, R. Fonfa, M. Hanley, C.
Loring, J. Jourdain

1. C. Loring reported that the FCLC is investigating pricing for a new
ILS so the directors can consult their financial officers regarding the likelihood of support for purchasing a new ILS in the next 2-3 years.
Simultaneously, the FCLC has been investigating the cost of open-linking/federated searching applications. There is an effort to gather the pricing information in time for submission into the next year's fiscal planning cycle.

2. R. Fonfa and S. Berger reported on progressing plans for the two
education sessions scheduled for January 2003, one on federated searching and the other on open linking. The subcommittee has most of the speakers lined up and is hoping to finalize dates and publicize the dates of the sessions soon. All present agreed that the planned "panel discussions" at the close of each session is a great idea.

3. We scheduled meetings through May 2003 as follows:

Mon 10 Feb 2-3:30 Five Colleges
Mon 24 Feb 2-3:30 Five Colleges

4. J. Jourdain reported on meetings she recently attended:
NYLINK/LITA's "XML in Libraries" on Nov 15 in Albany, NY and NELINET's "The Cutting Edge Catalog" on Nov 22 in Worcester, MA.

5. We began a review of our ideas list, concluding that those items
already accomplished or in process could be removed from the list. Review of the list will continue at future meetings.

We adjourned earlier than usual to participate in a conference call between the DEDCC/RIO subcommittee organizing the January meetings and some potential speakers from Maryland.

* Raven: contact RIO for volunteers to organize Jan '03 events- done
* Chris & Jay: get ballpark pricing on federated searching and open
