Meeting Notes

DEDCC 10/10/03 meeting at Five Colleges — notes

Present: M. Billings, J. Schafer, S.W. Brown, J. Boisselle, S. Berger, J. Jourdain

1. We scheduled a meeting for Friday January 30, 2004 at 10:30AM (Five Colleges).

2. We conducted our quarterly evaluation of our activities.

3. We discussed the status of SFX implementation at the various libraries. Things seem to be going relatively well. Users who’ve seen SFX in their work seem to appreciate it. There are some kinks in how it all works, but they are being smoothed out by both local staff members and Ex Libris. The overall reaction is positive.

4. Plans for the November 12 XML workshop have been finalized. It should be a good educational opportunity for all Five College librarians; we’re hoping for good attendance.

5. There is no news on progress on committee space as part of the Five Colleges, Inc. website.

6. We agreed that the CNI workshop on the future of IT and libraries should probably be sponsored by a regional group such as NELINET, rather than a local group like Five Colleges. Marilyn will let CNI know.

7. Recent staffing changes at Wesleyan University will likely cause changes in the operation of the live reference service at Smith. As a result, there may be opportunities for other libraries to participate at little or no cost.

8. We received an update on the ILS selection process. The RFB is on schedule for release October 15, as planned. Chairs of the various library committees will be invited to an upcoming meeting of the ILS group to discuss preparation of functional criteria checklists for reviewing possible new systems. We spent the remainder of the meeting discussing our checklist items.
