DEDCC 11/07/03 meeting at Amherst College — notes
Present: J. Boisselle, S.W. Brown, S. Berger, J. Schafer, C. Loring, J. Jourdain
• Everything is set for the XML workshop on Wednesday, November 12 at Hampshire; 70-75 people have said they plan to attend.
• The SFX implementation at each campus seems to be going well. There appear to be some problems due to the way various source and target producers have prepared their data, but the actual SFX software seems to be working as expected. Feedback at all the campuses is generally very favorable, in spite of occasional frustrations due to bad data. Both Amherst and Smith are anxious for UMass to share linking of SFX and ILLiad details.
• Smith and three other colleges' collaboration with Wesleyan on evening and late-night coverage for virtual reference has ended for this academic year. The five campuses continue to use software hosted at Wesleyan but now schedule coverage on their own. Although Smith plans to continue VR in some form in the future, it's not likely that they'll use eGain software after this year. Smith would like to continue to partner with another library in future VR endeavors. A planning meeting for the Wesleyan pilot participants will take place this winter.
• Slow progress on library committee space on the Five Colleges website is causing some frustration. A couple of committees have indicated that they would like some online collaboration space, for example. DEDCC is going to pilot use of Amherst’s Blackboard system to see if it facilitates file manipulation and editing by multiple users. DEDCC invites another committee interested in such collaboration to join in the pilot of Blackboard.
• The bulk of the meeting was spent discussing DEDCC’s portion of the ILS checklist. Discussion of ratings will be conducted via Blackboard.
