DEDCC 12/08/03 meeting at Five Colleges - notes

Present: M. Billings, S. Berger, C. Loring, S.W. Brown, J. Boisselle,
J. Jourdain

We briefly discussed the upcoming workshop on teaching skills for
information literacy programs. It will be held at Smith on Friday,
January 30.

We rescheduled our January meeting to February to accommodate the
January 30 workshop.

All the feedback on the November 12 XML workshop has been extremely
positive. The content, speakers, and organization for the workshop were
all excellent. Approximately 80 people attended. We may plan a follow-up brown-bag lunch on XML in March, if enthusiasm warrants.

The feedback on SFX continues to be positive. Although some titles
don't always work as hoped, generally the system is working well.

DEDCC has made minimal use of its Blackboard site so far, all agreed
it's worth continue to use, especially in light of the apparent delays
with committee web space on the Five Colleges website.

DEDCC is still hoping for feedback from Elisa Lanzi (Smith) regarding
digital object management as it relates to the ILS selection process.
Sika, Marilyn, and Jan encouraged the others on DEDCC to review the
portions of the bids available online, in particular the portions
related to DOM, context-sensitive linking, and federated searching, and
start considering pros and cons of the various options. Stephanie
volunteered to look for any published information regarding the
comparative usability of the major online catalogs currently available.
