DEDCC 10/01/04 meeting at Five Colleges - notes
Present: S. Brown, M. Billings, S. Berger, C. Loring, J. Ewing, J.
Jourdain
1. J. Ewing confirmed that RIO is not planning any events for
December, so we will continue to plan a brown bag session for early that
month. Collection Management is eager to co-sponsor a session that
will include a demo from Library Dynamics. L. Button will coordinate in cooperation with Collection Management. More details to follow.
2. Plans are progressing well for the October 21 session on
personalization versus privacy in online resources. S. Berger is coordinating. Susan Edwards, Amherst, and Bonnie Vigeland, Hampshire, will be the presenters.
3. M. Billings is planning to meet with RIO soon to discuss with
them the III Millennium Silver enhancements that DEDCC recommends be turned on. We're aiming to have all the changes people want to adopt effective by November 1.
4. M. Billings will investigate the recently reported problem with
keyword searches not being passed from the Four College catalog to the UMass catalog correctly. Seemingly randomly, keyword searches started in the Four College catalog yield blank screens when they are passed to the UMass catalog. This has been observed at all four Colleges in the past few weeks, since the most recent III upgrade.
5. J. Jourdain reported that Susan Stearns has recently joined Ex
Libris' ISD office as Director of Operations. S. Stearns is aware of our MetaLib issues and has spoken with Christine Turner, UMass, about them. She (S. Stearns) will investigate them and is in the process of planning additional training for us.
6. We had a general discussion about the possibility of planning
some further sessions for library colleagues about electronic resource management products such as Ex Libris' Verde as well as electronic serials products such as MARCIt!
