DEDCC 04/22/05 meeting at Five Colleges - notes
Present: S. Berger, J. Ewing, L. Button, S. Brown, J. Jourdain
1. We tabled our periodic self-evaluation until our next meeting
(May 13) in hopes that all members will be present then.
2. S. Brown reminded everyone that she will have been chair of the
committee 3 years as of the end of June, so will be rotating out of that post. We'll select a new chair at our May meeting.
3. The FCLC accepted our recommendation that there be a Five
Colleges Libraries listserv. We agreed that, ideally, the listserv will include all library staff members and that it should be a moderated list. Further, we hope to have 5 moderators, one from each institution, who will be responsible for maintaining their institution's membership on the list. We also hope to come up with a scheme for recommended subject line structure so people can tell whether or not a particular message will be of interest to them without having to read the entire message. The list archives (intended to be private) should be easily accessible to everyone in the libraries without having to have individual passwords. J. Jourdain will investigate AC's listserv management software to see if it can accommodate all these requirements and report back to the list.
4. The FCLC also asked DEDCC to check on the status of the various
committee websites on the Five Colleges website. We set a goal of June 30 as a date by which the committee pages should be established and inked to from the FCLC pages on the site. S. Brown will contact the committee chairs and Robyn Cutler at Five Colleges to advise them of this plan.
We discussed at length options for securing meeting notes on private pages. Two options seemed most practical: a) putting the meeting notes in space on the Five Colleges server that is accessible only within the Five Colleges campuses domains or b) putting the meeting notes in one of the institutions' course management system (Blackboard, WebCT, etc.). J. Jourdain will contact Robyn Cutler (and Donna Baron) to discuss the possibility of providing limited-access space on the Five Colleges server.
5. There was lengthy discussion of the implications of the ALEPH
Implementation Committee-proposed, FCLC-approved moratorium on changes to the two Innopac systems. Considerable discussion focused on the status of two changes that have been in the works since early last fall:
reading history and activating the "limit to available" option for keyword and modified searches.
The
group agreed that the reading history should be turned off since it's not working properly for everyone; J. Jourdain will ask Margaret Groesbeck, RIO chair, for that committee's opinion on it. Since we couldn't determine if any work has been done on implementation of the "limit to available" search feature, we eventually concluded that it could not be pursued, per the moratorium.
6. All plans have been finalized for the FRBR brown bag on May 6 at
Mount Holyoke. There will also be a RIO-sponsored session on website
usability June 14, 9-11AM at Hampshire. Stay tuned for more info on both.
Next meeting: Friday, May 13, 9AM, Smith College
