Minutes of the December 11, 2006 Meeting
Present: Bonnie Vigeland (chair), Bryan Goodwin, Margaret Groesbeck, Beth Lang (recorder), Barbara Polowy. Guests: Jan Jourdain, Chris Hannon.
Absent: Sherre Harrington
ALEPH OPAC display issues:
RIO members discussed the list of outstanding OPAC display issues with Jan and Chris, in order to get a better sense of what changes are possible to make in the OPAC, and how long each may take. Once we have an idea of what is doable over the January intersession, we will send our list of requests to Jan and Chris for their action. When RIO is deciding upon what OPAC problems to send on for possible fixes, Jan urged us to always check problems on both test and production servers first, before formally reporting them.
RIO members agreed to send to Bonnie, within ten days, lists of OPAC display items that still really need fixing. Bonnie will compile our lists into one, and send it on to Jan and Chris by December 22, so there will be time to make the changes before spring semester starts.
RIO also will provide some more examples for the Basic Search contextual help screens.
“New Titles” functionality:
RIO would like to get this up and running as soon as possible, as it would be a nice new Aleph feature to advertise to faculty and students. RIO agreed that items listed under New Titles would remain for 90 days. In order to proceed, catalogers will need to be involved as to how to set this up, and what criteria will be used. A joint meeting between RIO and Five college Cat committee was proposed (this is scheduled for Friday, January 19, 9am, at Hampshire College.)
SDI “Alerts” functionality:
RIO agreed to table this for now.
Next meeting:
The next meeting, which had originally been scheduled for January 8, was moved to Friday, January 19 at 9am at Hampshire College.
Spring Semester RIO meeting dates:
February 12
March 12
April 9
May 14
Meetings start at 9am, and are held at the Hampshire College Library.
