Five College Libraries
Research, Instruction and Outreach Committee (RIO)
Minutes of the June 22, 2009 Meeting
Present: Bryan Goodwin (chair), Susan Kimball, Beth Lang (recorder), Barbara Polowy, Bonnie Vigeland. Absent: Charlotte Slocum Patriquin (FCLC rep).

RIO Committee charge: FCLC has discussed updated charges for RIO, DEDCC, and various ALEPH-focused committees but has not yet announced decisions about the Five Colleges Committee structures for the coming year.
FCLC has also asked RIO to research and identify low-cost catalog enrichment options to replace or supplement the Syndetics options we currently subscribe to. RIO would like further clarification about this request, taking into account the considerable investigation already done by DEDCC. Bryan will contact Charlotte to determine what information FCLC is asking for from RIO.
Testing of OPAC v.19 on test catalog: Bryan compiled RIO test results, and forwarded the report to Step Schmitt on 6/15/09.
Planning for v.19 upgrade downtime of the OPAC: RIO members discussed alternate methods to suggest to users who need to locate library materials while the OPAC is down for the v.19 upgrade, scheduled for July 6-12. RIO will draft a webpage with information and send it to Step Schmitt.
Records in http://www.worldcat.org/ do not show any call numbers, so we will have to direct users to each institution’s subscription of WorldCat.
Agenda topic for next meeting: Planning for our fall gathering of Five Colleges reference librarians. Consider: date, format (should it be issue-oriented rather than just an information-sharing session?), theme of the gathering.
