From 1978-1987, the librarians who served as the Head of Acquisitions or the Head of Technical Services from each of the five institutions met informally several times a year as the libraries considered a shared online system.
In 1987 this group of five librarians became the profiling group for acquisitions for LS/2000. The group was expanded in 1993 when a new online system (III) was chosen to include 2 representatives from each institution, one from acquisitions and one from serials. The group was designated the Five College Serials/Acquisitions Committee and its charge was “to provide final profiling information for acquisitions and serials”. Since 1993, the liaison from the Five College Librarian’s Council has been the Director of Libraries at the University of Massachusetts.
In December 1998, the committee changed its name to Acquisitions/Serials. Serials was seen as a format, Acquisitions as a systems module or function.
In the summer of 2006, the libraries migrated from
Innovative Interfaces Inc. (III) to Ex Libris' Aleph. Training was on version 16 but migration was on version 17.
