Five College Coordinator of Recruitment Outreach

In late fall, the directors of Human Resources welcomed Annie Rodriguez to fill the newly created position of Coordinator of Recruitment & Outreach. This position brings to five the number of Five College joint administrative appointments, which serve three, four, or five of the campuses. The others are in risk management, energy management, teacher licensure, and recycling. This new position, created as a vehicle to help the schools recruit a more diverse pool of applicants of color for administrative and staff position openings, was proposed by the human resource directors, who sought the endorsementand support of the Five College principal business officers. Funding for the initial three years of the position is being provided by a portion of a recent grant to Five Colleges from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to encourage new forms of collaboration in administration.

Ms. Rodriguez, who is a graduate of Cambridge College in Springfield, Massachusetts, holds a Master's Degree in Education. She has extensive professional experience in higher education, non-profit management, program planning, and community service organizations. Prior to accepting this position with the Five Colleges she worked at the University of Connecticut Women's Center in Storrs, Ct as the Coordinator of The Violence Against Women Prevention Program. She also held the position of Shelter director at the New England Learning Center for Women in Translation in Greenfield, MA. Since 1999, she has been a consultant and trainer to many organizations, both locally and nationally. She is also an advocating for underrepresented groups, raising awareness, and providing training and education on race relations, violence against women, and issues of social justice. She continues her work as a Resource Trainer with The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond, in which she provides workshops on racism.
