Copenhagen Climate Conference

Part of the mission behind 350.org's International Day of Climate Action is "...to unite the public, media, and our political leaders behind the 350 goal" because "...2009 will be an absolutely crucial year. This December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. The problem is, the treaty currently on the table doesn't meet the severity of the climate crisis -- it doesn't pass the 350 test."

The conference is scheduled to take place December 7-18, 2009. The main focus of the conference is to discuss the Kyoto Protocol, which is "...a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), an international environmental treaty with the goal of achieving 'stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.'" [quoted from the Wikipedia entry, which includes a map designating which countries have and have not ratified the protocol.]
