Visual Considerations

Videos

Adding video and motion images varies the learning environment and, therefore, increases student interest. Videos, however, should be planned to last no more than 10 minutes at a time, if possible. Keep in mind that showing videos on many systems monopolizes the video source and prevents students from seeing you or students in other locations. (The same is true for the document camera.) It is also helpful to provide "organizers" for students to use to focus their attention as well as record their reactions. Finally, remember to cue up the videotape and test the video on your system's VCR as color and intensity can vary.

Document camera materials

1. Horizontal or landscape orientation is better if you want to view the whole document at once.

2. Allow 3/4 inch margin around the outside of the slide as a 'safe area'.

3. Some recommend using blue or green paper for document camera slides.

4. Use a readable font point size (20-36 point), and stay away from red font.

5. Use readable font style

This is sans serif (Arial)
+ Easier to read
+ Best for video

This is serif (Times New Roman)
+ Fills in screen
+ Harder to read

6. Balance the design of the text on your graphic. Avoid all capital letters. NOT LIKE THIS!!!
