If there is a Five College employee who supports my program directly, and that employee is paid for with funds from my program or project budget, what do I need to know about managing that support staff member?

If your program includes a support staff member who is a Five College employee, and that employee is paid for with funds from your program or project budget, please consult the Five College website “for staff” area to learn about Five College employment policies and a supervisor’s responsibilities, including the annual performance evaluation. (In some cases, programs receive support from a staff member employed by one of the campuses; in that case consult the policies and procedures of that campus and the primary supervisor of that employee.)  The supervisor of any FCI employee program staff member is required to attend an annual planning meeting for supervisors in early spring and to complete the evaluation process with the FCI employee. Please note that the program leader (Director, Chair or PI) should be familiar with the terms of all contracts for staff members managed and paid for by the program or project. Some contracts stipulate an annual work period within the academic year. In such a case the support staff member is prohibited from working the specified period of the contract
