Five Colleges Counselor Tour Frequently Asked Questions

    1. What expenses can visiting counselors expect Five Colleges to cover?

This year we are working in collaboration with the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Conference. They are assisting us with logistics for our Counselor Tour, including transportation from Boston to Five Colleges and back. If you are not registered with the NACAC conference, you will be responsible for your own transportation to and from Five Colleges.

We will continue to provide free accommodations (a room shared with one other counselor on the tour) at the Hotel Northampton. This includes the cost of a two-nights stay (Monday and Tuesday), as well as dinner Monday evening. All other meals will be had on campus during the tours, with the exception of one lunch/dinner, TBD.

        2. Do you typically invite more than one counselor from the same school?

It is our aim to reach out to the most students possible; having two counselors from the same school attend our tour leaves one less space for someone from another institution to take part. Therefore, we do not register more than one counselor from the same high school to attend the Five College Counselor Tour. If more than one person from the same school/organization does pre-register for the tour, we put the second person on our waitlist. Should space become available, we will be in touch with pre-registered counselors on our waitlist.

    3. When will I know whether or not I've been registered for the Fall 2017 Five College Counselor Tour?

Before the end of May 2017 we will contact people to let them know if they have been registered to attend the fall 2017 counselor tour. This year, we hope to have a sufficient number of counselors pre-registered early enough to be able to notify you while school is still in session.

    4. What should I expect if I become registered for the 2017 Counselor tour?

Should you become registered, we will provide you with further details regarding the tour. If you are not registered with the NACAC Conference, we will ask you to provide us with your travel plans (as confirmation of your intention to attend the tour) within three weeks of your registration confirmation notice. Please do not make travel plans before receiving registration confirmation.

    5. What if I do not want to share a room with another counselor?

A very limited number of single-occupancy rooms are available for a fee on a first-come first-served basis

    6. I'm planning to drive; what is the address, where will I park, and is there a fee for parking?

The Hotel Northampton provides on-site parking free of charge to guests who are staying with them as part of the Five College Counselor Tour. Their address is 36 King Street, Northampton, MA 01060.

6a.  What time should I arrive in western Massachusetts on Monday,  if driving?

The reception followed by dinner at the Hotel Northampton Monday evening will begin around 5:30 pm. If you're arriving by train or bus, allot at least 30, if not 45, minutes travel time. If arriving from Bradley International Airport (BDL), allot at least 60, if not 75, minutes travel time.

    7.  What time do you recommend I book my return flight?

Five Colleges, Inc. will not be providing transportation from the Hotel Northampton (following the conclusion of the last campus tour) directly to Bradley International Airport (BDL). If you will be driving to and from the airport, according to internet mapping tools, it takes approximately 40 minutes to travel from the Hotel Northampton to BDL. If you were to estimate an hour to be on the safe side, that would put arrival time at the airport around 4:15 pm. We do not recommend booking flights with a departure time any earlier than 6:00 pm. You are free to use your discretion, of course, when looking into flights once you've received confirmation from Five Colleges that you have been registered for the 2017 Counselor Tour.
