Unconventional Love with Stas Schmiedt and Lea Roth

Mon, Apr 16 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm
Location:
Center For Feminisms

This workshop explores the challenges and possibilities in emerging relationship structures including cross cultural dating, polyamory, and asexuality. We will explore alternative relationship structures and innovative models of intimacy. Participants will learn to map how power is distributed in unconventional relationships, how to communicate clearly about boundaries and agreements, empathize and grow across difference, as well as face and navigate jealousy, expectations, and competition. Together we will design agreements and communication plans for sample relationships.

Nastassja (Stas) Schmiedt and Lea Roth are intersectional community organizers, storytellers, and healers based in Miami, FL. They are the co-founders of Spring Up, a social enterprise cultivating a culture of consent and liberty for all (timetospringup.org). Stas & Lea started as student activists at Dartmouth College and have since presented workshops to students from over 50 universities and high schools. They've given two TEDx talks: "Cultivating a Culture of Consent" and "The Millennial Mindset Can Save the World." They are the authors of "Millennial Sex Education" and are published in the critically acclaimed anthology "We Believe You: Survivors of Campus Sexual Assault Speak Out." Their writing on gender, sexuality, and sexual violence has been featured on Huffington Post,  Blavity, and Feministing. They appeared in the documentary "The Hunting Ground" and on stage with Lady Gaga at the 2016 Oscars.
