The Art of Spiritual Warfare: Anti-Religious Images in Early Soviet Russia

This gallery talk examines early Soviet-era posters as “active participants” or “weapons” in Bolshevik efforts to realize a utopian vision for a new religionless Soviet person. Smith College Professor of Religion Vera Shevzov will discuss Soviet graphic artists’ contribution to this cultural project and the long-term impact such imagery may have had on post-Soviet society, extending to the present day.

Open to the public; museum admission is $5.
