Five Colleges names Janna White director of language center

Janna White has been named director of the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. Serving as interim and then acting director since August 2018, White has managed six fulltime staff and a number of part-time tutors and conversation partners, coordinating instruction in some 40 less commonly taught languages to more than 300 Five College students.

Five College Multicultural Theater presents the WORD! Festival of staged student readings

WORD!, an annual presentation of student-written scripts dealing with issues of race and diversity, will be presented Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at New Africa House at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The event is free and open to the public. 

Symposia to showcase research by Five College students

Five College students and community members are invited to attend several student symposia taking place throughout the month of April. Undergraduate students will be presenting their research in anthropology, ethnomusicology, geology and marine sciences. Their presentations offer a unique opportunity to see the work of students from all five campuses within a single discipline.

African Studies Community Dinner being held at Hampshire College

Thursday, March 28, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Red Barn, Hampshire College

African food, music and conversation will be abundant at the Five College African Studies Community Dinner on March 28 at 5:30 at Hampshire College’s Red Barn. The Five College African Studies Council has sponsored the event for the past several years to connect students and faculty interested in African Studies.

Hampshire Gallery exhibition highlights works of Five College students

December 10–13, Hampshire College Art Gallery; reception Dec. 12, 6–8 p.m.

Artwork of students from each Five College campus will be on display at the Hampshire College Art Gallery from December 10 through December 13 in a show entitled, “It’s not about space, it’s about space.”
