After Commonwealth, Pettiford served as chief executive officer of Gravity Switch, a regional marketing and website development firm. In 2013 she was recognized by BusinessWest as one of the region’s “40 under Forty,” awarded to young business and civic leaders in western Massachusetts.
“Shonda brings to FCI a diverse set of skills for this challenging new position, and also enthusiasm, integrity, and curiosity that I believe will serve us well,” said Five College Executive Director Sarah Pfatteicher of the appointment.
Five College Information Technology Director Maria Toyofuku chaired the search committee, and was joined by Michelle Goncalves from the UMass chancellor's office and Matt Hart, emergency management director for Amherst College. “They did excellent work with a robust and talented pool of candidates,” added Pfatteicher.
In the newly created director of operations position, Pettiford will be a member of the FCI leadership team, and responsible for helping to build internal structures, procedures, and policies to support the effective functioning of the consortium, enhancing its ability to serve its member campuses. In particular, her duties will include overseeing the consortium’s human resources, facilities, administrative support and emergency management. Her first day will be Wednesday, November 7.
