African Studies Community Dinner being held at Hampshire College

Thursday, March 28, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Red Barn, Hampshire College

African food, music and conversation will be abundant at the Five College African Studies Community Dinner on March 28 at 5:30 at Hampshire College’s Red Barn. The Five College African Studies Council has sponsored the event for the past several years to connect students and faculty interested in African Studies.

“The hope is to encourage cross-campus interaction between students who have studied abroad and others who hope to study in Africa,” says Lynda Pickbourn, chair of the Five College African Studies Program and a professor at Hampshire College. “It is always an energy-filled evening with music and dance and recollections.”

Dishes from across the African continent will be provided by Hampshire College, and there will be a musical performance by the Five College West African Music Ensemble.

The Five College African Studies Certificate Program draws on the resources of all five consortium campuses, benefitting from a wide variety of African studies courses that are taught within the consortium each year. Students completing the program earn a certificate that is the equivalent of an academic minor in African Studies. For more information, visit fivecolleges.edu/african.
