Five College Consortium

Top student artists reunite to create their own show

Student artists from the five campuses, joined together in the fall semester by a Five College Advanced Studio Seminar, are reuniting to display new works of art in a show called "FIVE TWO" March 9–23 in Mount Holyoke College’s Blanchard Student Gallery.

The students first met last fall in the studio seminar. Working together, and with New York City painter and educator Jaya Howey, they developed a show, “FIVE,” that went on display in November. They remained close afterwards, continuing to learn from and support one another as emerging artists.

“The Five College Advanced Studio Seminar was a unique experience for all of us,” says Mount Holyoke student Fiza Khatri ’15. “This show aims to bring together the energy and momentum we developed as a group and use it to put our work back into conversation.”

From those relationships grew this student-initiated art show in which all five campuses are represented. The show will feature drawings and paintings as well as sculptures and installations.

“Instead of leaving this energy in the classroom, we have decided to once again collectively investigate the direction our work has taken since December,” says Khatri.

There will be an opportunity to meet the students and discuss their work at a reception on Thursday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Blanchard Student Gallery. This show is free and open to the public.
