Combining traditional and alternative approaches to time-based media, students will investigate the idea of the “immersive environment” by incorporating sound, video, and sculpture into a comprehensive installation. Cross-disciplinary and mixed media approaches are integral to the course. Students will work in a range of mediums and styles that may include video-based, stop-motion style, image variation sequencing strategies, and images originating as hand drawn, printed, painted, sculptural, photographic or digital format. We will work with such software as Photoshop, After Affects and Final Cut Pro for image acquisition, editing and manipulation, file preparation, animating and exporting. Students have the option to make interactive or collaborative works. Guest artists and researchers who use such technologies as sensors, robotics and virtual reality will visit our class.

Recommended requisite: One studio course. Limited to 12 students. Spring semester. Artist-in-Residence Tolley.
